Evil Tactics

Evil Tactics is a Turn-based Strategy game where you control a growing group of survivors who explore a city infested by evil creatures.

The game is best played on Windows, using the Itch App. Mac OS support is experimental and requires running a command line (see below).

It's controlled with Mouse and Keyboard only (for now).

It autosaves after each battle.

About the game

Evil Tactics battles are typically completed by surviving for 4 turns, and avoiding conditions for failure (e.g. protecting  people or items). 

The gameplay loop goes as follows : pick a mission, which typically includes 3 battles or 4 turns each, select 3 characters among your survivor group, and win all of the mission battles in a row to unlock more missions and additional survivors. 

The game features a (light) story driven universe in a post-apocalyptic setting a small town where trapped citizens need escaping.

The demo features 4 missions (excluding the tutorial) of 3 Battles each. A battle lasts 5 minutes on average.

Guiding Principles

Inspired by Into the Breach (its main source of inspiration)   Advance Wars, Darkest Dungeon, Fire Emblem and more, Evil Tactics is based on a few key guiding principles :

• Perfect information during player turn:  The game is  fully deterministic, random values are rarely ever used, so that Future impact of enemy/NPC actions is fully accessible to the player to make the right decision.
• Focus on defence and positioning - moving, blocking, pushing actions are as important as attacking, and defending citizens/other survivors is as important as defending your squad members
  
• Minimalism - limited battle map (8x8 max), limited health points, just a couple of abilities per characters.  The hope is that , while accessible through simple mechanics, emerging situations become increasingly strategic and challenging to solve.

Mac OS

To run the application on Mac OS, users need to explicitly allow the execution of the program, by running the following command line from Terminal:

xattr -cr /path/to/application.app

(If you don't know the path to application, simply drop the app file itself into the Terminal window)
